Donna Beserra has enjoyed writing since elementary school. She now writes and publishes her own children's picture books. She created a series of stories about a character called Twirly Shirley. In the original series, the story was acted out on video and in photos by Donna's own children and grandson. She is currently publishing a new series which contains illustrations based on her children. The artwork is created by Melody Karns Trone, who paints with wonderful imagination and skill.
Donna loves to work with children, and visits schools to encourage children to read more, and use their imaginations to create stories of their own. Donna also puts on performances which allow children to wear costumes, and act out the Twirly Shirley stories in front of local audiences. Donna hopes to inspire future writers and performers.
In addition to her own publishing, Donna has a story with Malone-Ballard Book Publishers. Her story is called Cinderella Trouble, and is part of a collection by various authors called Lost Soles; How and why shoes get lost.
Donna previously worked with with RE/MAX on Track ias a Broker Associate. Donna has sponsored the RE/MAX Hot Air Balloon School Program, in which the RE/MAX Hot Air Balloon Pilot visits elementary schools to do demonstrations and teach children about how Hot Air Balloons function. Donna herself has taken a flight in the RE/MAX balloon along with daughter Shereene (Twirly Shirley). The experience was especially memorable for Shereene since the flight was taken on Shereene's 12th birthday.
